Basic Meat Sauce

Ingredients
- Servings: 4
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 2 cups sliced mushrooms
- 3/4 lb lean ground beef
- 1/2 cup dry wine
- 1 (28 ounce) can italian plum tomatoes
- 1/2 cup water
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
Recipe
- 1 heat oil in large nonstick skillet.
- 2 add onion; cook until softened, 4 minutes.
- 3 add mushrooms; cook until liquid evaporates, 5 minutes.
- 4 add beef; cook, breaking up clumps, until browned.
- 5 add wine; cook until wine evaporates.
- 6 add tomatoes with their liquid, water, salt and pepper; simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally until sauce thickens, about 15 minutes.
- 7 toss with cooked pasta of choice and serve.
- 8 sprinkle with freshly grated parmesan cheese at the table.
