Basic Meat Sauce

Total Time: 45 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cups sliced mushrooms
  • 3/4 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup dry wine
  • 1 (28 ounce) can italian plum tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Recipe

  • 1 heat oil in large nonstick skillet.
  • 2 add onion; cook until softened, 4 minutes.
  • 3 add mushrooms; cook until liquid evaporates, 5 minutes.
  • 4 add beef; cook, breaking up clumps, until browned.
  • 5 add wine; cook until wine evaporates.
  • 6 add tomatoes with their liquid, water, salt and pepper; simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally until sauce thickens, about 15 minutes.
  • 7 toss with cooked pasta of choice and serve.
  • 8 sprinkle with freshly grated parmesan cheese at the table.
