Basic Beef Jerky

Total Time: 13 hrs 30 mins Preparation Time: 1 hr 30 mins Cook Time: 12 hrs

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs beef steaks or 2 lbs beef roast
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon hickory liquid smoke
  • 2 pinches curing salt (optional)

Recipe

  • 1 trim most of the fat from the meat and cut into 1/8"-1/4" thick slices.
  • 2 combine all the ingredients except the meat in a large bowl.
  • 3 stir until the seasonings dissolve.
  • 4 add the meat and mix until thoroughly coated.
  • 5 let stand for at least 1 hour or cover and refrigerate for several hours.
  • 6 shake off excess liquid and put the slices in the dehydrator.
  • 7 dehydrate for 12 hours or until desired doneness at the highest temperature setting.
