Belgian Stew

Total Time: 1 hr 40 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 1 hr 30 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 2 lbs beef stew meat
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 stalks celery, diced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 12 ounces beer
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons marjoram
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1 bay leaf
  • to taste salt and pepper

Recipe

  • 1 heat the oil in a soup pot.
  • 2 toss the beef in flour.
  • 3 add to the oil and brown.
  • 4 add the remaining ingredients.
  • 5 slowly.
  • 6 bring to a boil.
  • 7 reduce the heat and simmer until all ingredients are tender (about 1 1/2 hours).
  • 8 serve warm with hearty bread.
