Beef Braised In Red Wine

Total Time: 1 hr 20 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 1 hr

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 1 1/2 lbs boneless beef round steak, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 2 cups fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth, divided
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 stalks celery, sliced
  • 10 baby carrots
  • 5 medium potatoes, peeled and halved
  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1 cup dry red wine, or
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 large bay leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/8 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Recipe

  • 1 toss beef with flour in a shallow baking pan, sprayed with non -stick cooking spray.
  • 2 bake at 350f, stirring occasionally, about 25 minutes.
  • 3 heat onion, garlic, mushrooms, 1/4 c beef broth, and oil to boiling in a large dutch oven.
  • 4 reduce heat and simmer until onion is tender, about 10 minutes.
  • 5 stir in remaining 3/4 cup broth and all 6 remaining ingredients except salt and pepper.
  • 6 heat to boiling.
  • 7 place dutch oven, in the oven and bake, covered, until beef is tender, about 45 minutes.
  • 8 season to taste with salt and pepper.
