Beef Patties With Saucy Mushrooms

Total Time: 30 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1 onion
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons dry breadcrumbs
  • 3/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 1/2 cups mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons fresh parsley, chopped

Recipe

  • 1 finely chop one half of the onion.
  • 2 slice the remaining half and set aside.
  • 3 in a large bowl, combine the chopped onion, egg, bread crumbs, 1 tablespoon water, thyme, salt, pepper and half of the garlic, then mix in the beef.
  • 4 shape into 8 1/2" thick patties.
  • 5 in a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat and fry the patties until browned on both sides, no longer pink inside and a meat thermometer inserted into the centre registers 160 degrees f, about 10 minutes.
  • 6 transfer to a plate.
  • 7 drain the fat from the pan.
  • 8 fry the mushrooms, sliced onion and remaining garlic until the mushrooms are softened and browned, 4 minutes.
  • 9 add the flour and cook, stirring, for 1 minute.
  • 10 add the broth and worcestershire sauce.
  • 11 bring to a boil and boil, stirring, until thickened, about 2 minutes.
  • 12 return the patties to the pan and add the parsley.
  • 13 heat through.
